CGS Golf Holiday 2026 – Chiang Mai, Thailand
Captain Dino Capsalis once again took the society back to Thailand following the hugely successful and thoroughly enjoyable trips in 2019 and 2025. This year’s annual golf holiday took place from 2nd–8th February 2026 in Chiang Mai and was generously sponsored by Russell Kilikita.
A total of 32 CGS golfers attended, all competing for the prestigious title of Champion Golfer of the Week.
Although it is a long journey to Thailand, the rewards make it more than worthwhile. With excellent weather (30–32°C of sunshine and low humidity), outstanding golf courses such as Alpine, Highlands, and Legacy, the experience of playing with caddies, great-value food, and the warm hospitality of the Thai people, it remains a fantastic golf holiday destination.
Tournament Summary
The golf got underway on Monday 2nd February with the Red Ball Team Event. In this format, the best two scores out of four counted on each hole, with the red ball, worth double points, rotating between players throughout the round. The key challenge, of course, is keeping hold of the red ball.
The runaway winners, who impressively managed not to lose their ball, were the captain’s team of Dino Capsalis, sponsor Russell Kilikita, Tom Theodorou, and Stathi Liasi, finishing with an excellent 106 points. The runners-up recorded 93 points.
Tuesday 3rd February saw the start of the main Singles Competition, played over four rounds. Day 1 at Highlands (A+B) was won by 2014 holiday champion Tony Philippou with 33 points, narrowly ahead of Captain Dino Capsalis on 32 points.
On Wednesday 4th February, Round 2 took place at Alpine (B+C), a challenging course featuring numerous water hazards. Michael Falekkos produced an excellent round of 34 points off a handicap of 6 to take the win, with Louis Tsioupra and Tim Pavlakos close behind.
Thursday 5th February was a well-earned rest day, giving players the opportunity to relax by the pool, enjoy sightseeing trips to temples and elephant sanctuaries, indulge in massages, or simply unwind.
Friday 6th February featured the Amigos Betterball Competition at Legacy Golf Club, a welcome break from the intensity of the singles. The father-and-son pairing of Tony and Harry Philippou emerged victorious with 37 points, winning on countback in a tightly contested event.
Saturday 7th February brought Round 3 of the singles at Highlands (B+C), often referred to as “Movers and Shakers Day,” where strong performances can significantly impact the leaderboard. Angelo Takkas took the day with an excellent 35 points, narrowly beating Andrew Adams on countback. Despite this, Andrew maintained a commanding overall lead of 8 points heading into the final round.
Final Day
Sunday 8th February saw the final round at Alpine. Tension was high among the leaders, with Andrew Adams leading after three rounds on 96 points, followed by Tim Pavlakos (88), George “Vavvs” Georgiou (87), and Andy Odysseous (85).
After nine holes, the gap between Andrew and Tim had narrowed to just a few points, setting up an exciting back nine. However, the notoriously difficult Alpine course offered few scoring opportunities. Andrew Adams, playing off a handicap of 0, a professional golfer, and a two-time previous holiday winner (2015 and 2017), demonstrated his experience and composure to close out the tournament in style.

Dino Capsalis CGS Captain 2026
Foundation Trophy – Porters Park Golf Club, 18 March 2026
The first event of the Cypriot Golf Society 2025 season took place on 18th March at Porters Park Golf Club.

New Captain Dino Capsalis welcomed the 64 members in attendance and expressed his gratitude to the event sponsor, John Constantinou of IPS Financial Solutions Ltd, for his generous support.

In keeping with society tradition, the Captain’s inauguration was presented by Michael Falekkos. Members were treated to a selection of entertaining stories and photos from Dino’s earlier years—much to the delight of the audience and the slight embarrassment of the Captain.

It proved to be a glorious day for both Captain Dino and the society, with clear skies and temperatures reaching 20°C. If this is anything to go by, Dino may well follow in the footsteps of last year’s “sunshine captain,” Andy Michanicou, for the season ahead.
Porters Park presented a fair but challenging test, with several excellent holes and a course that was in very good condition despite the recent wet winter.
On the course, Costa Sophocleous claimed his first society major title with an impressive 36 points. A popular figure and the society’s Handicap Secretary, Costa will no doubt be keeping a close eye on his own handicap going forward!

Following the round, members enjoyed dinner, after which Captain Dino and sponsor John presented the prizes. The Captain then upheld tradition by issuing fines to those who had stepped out of line during the day, raising an excellent £720 for his chosen charity, North London Hospice. This brings the total raised so far to an impressive £3,855, including generous donations from members’ prize winnings.
Overall, it was a fantastic start to the year.
